Home Factory launches designer prefab apartments for the Housing Association market at the Building Centre, Store Street WC1 from 17th October 2006
In an affordable housing market dominated by 60’s tower blocks and drab design, Home Factory is launching a new hi-spec, volumetric design-led apartment system. Available through partnerships with Housing Associations and shared ownership schemes, getting on the property ladder in central London with a designer apartment can now lost less than £100,000.
By using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), Home Factory aims to help solve parts of the continuing nationwide housing shortage crisis, particularly in urban locations. With similar technology already widely used in Japan and Scandinavia, the Home Factory system is centred on a steel framed volumetric unit which is manufactured offsite under factory conditions. It is then delivered to site fully fitted. The homes can be customised to the user needs and designed to fit together into an urban solution which is planning friendly, secure and robust. As well as less snagging and more fixed costs, this allows onsite development times to be reduced by upto 40%.
Designed by architects AMA, known for upscale luxury house design and retail space designs, Home Factory system finally brings to the housing market the much needed combination of luxury design with mass-manufacturing that is prevalent in fashion, interiors and even the car industry. All units come in standard one, two and three bedroom apartments sizes, conform to the Scheme Design Standards and have been granted Housing Type approval from the Housing Corporation and achieve Lifetime Homes.
The Home Factory business model is based on partnering with housing associations to deliver developments with a mix of Private, Shared Ownership and Social Rented apartments. All will work from the same basic shell but will have a range of different interior specifications that premiumise offerings to the appropriate market. We are looking at delivering 1000 homes over the next 5 years through partnerships of this nature and are currently considering a number of sites in the Greater London area for development opportunities with Housing Association partners. By creating a design-led, site neutral product and brand we believe that we can offer a one-stop package to our customers where we can offer a mixed tenure construction solution and also help with marketing, disposals and long term maintenance.
The first full production model will be available for private view from Tuesday 17th - Friday 20th October 2006 and to the public on Saturday 21st outside the Building Centre, Store Street, London WC1E 7BT
